A Lesson in Luck

By Francesca De Grandis

So, you bought a lucky charm. Or you did a spell for good luck. Great! And I've learned through experience that follow-through on the mundane plane is necessary. There are a lot of different mundane acts that might be needed as follow-through. A spell at the end of this article will help you implement any and all of them. Plus, let's go into depths about one of them right now.

A way I follow through that might help you is this: stop focusing on your problems.

I'm not suggesting you bury your head in the sand, take no action to head off or overcome problems, ignore a crisis, suppress difficult feelings, or beat yourself up for your problems. But it's easy to get so caught up in our problems—whether they're really awful or minor—that we miss the solutions.

When you've done what you can regarding a dilemma for now, stop worrying it like a dog with a bone. Stop pushing so hard to solve it that you're exhausted, upset, or can't think straight. Really walk away mentally from the predicament and focus on doing the dishes or preparing your taxes or taking a hot soak in the tub or doing whatever else needs to be done in your day. Then a solution will likely come to mind.

What I'm suggesting may not seem relevant to benefiting from a good luck spell or from a good luck charm, but bear with me.

After you perform a good luck spell or starting using a luck talisman, luck is probably sending solutions to you. Misfortune happens to everyone, but people with luck are given the ideas and means to overcome their troubles. The trick is making space for those ideas to appear in our minds. When I stop focusing on my problems, my mind has space for solutions to enter. My mind also acquires the space to notice the solutions in my environment.

It can be hard to allow your attention to leave your problems and focus on today's agenda instead. So I wrote a quick, fun, magical chant to help me with that.

The chant also opens me to noticing whatever other ways I need to follow through on luck magic.

The chant also will, in itself, generate luck! Yup, the chant is a good luck spell! Say the chant once or as often as you want.

"I have luck, and I have smarts.

Living is a wondrous art.

I run with luck that comes my way,

so more luck comes another day.

So mote it be!"
